How exactly is it that weapon mods work I mean I know that adding a certain mod to a weapon affects the weapon drastically but where do you get these mods? How do you get them? Also once you identify a certain mod does it go to your pvp character? If so how do you equip these mods to a pvp weapon? If you salvage a gold weapon will it produce a gold mod?

If someone could answer these questions for me or redirect me to someone who could, I would be greatly in their debt.

Yes they do transfer to your pvp only characters. You find them by using an expert salvage kit on a weapon with an upgrade on it already. If the weapon has a prefix or suffix, ex. *Shocking* short sword of *fortitude*. Use an expert salvage on those, and you have a chance of getting one or both upgrades. There are no gold mods. Unlocking them inivolves iding a weapon with an upgrade attached to it. And it has the same effect in pve that it does in pvp.

Just do roleplaying and don't waste your time hunting for them -they aren't worth much at all. You'll come by a few eventually. If you see an Unidentified weapon, just Id it.

i'm kinda new to this game too...epacially to mods...
i've got for example:
Longbow of Enchanting (blue)
Piercing Dmg: 7-10
Damage +10% (vs. haxed foes)
Enchantments last 5% longer

i think i got this in pre-searing with a character that just got into the post-searing...anyway i can experiment with this...
well i tried using expert salvage kit on it and it says that this item cannot be salvaged...y? i mean y?...plz explain this to me...

It probably can't be salvaged because quest rewards and collector's items can't be salvaged. If they could, it would be pretty easy to collect lots of certain materials or mods and such. Anyway...

To better explain mods:
There are prefixes and suffixes, in this form:
[Prefix] Weapon Name of [Suffix]

For example: Poisoner's Longbow of Fortitude

Each type of prefix applies affects to attacks, while suffixes apply other effects (example, of Enchanting increases the duration of enchantments, of Fortitude gives bonus health, etc.). In my previous example, Poisoner's increases the duration of poison on a foe.

Additionally, only weapons have edittable mods (suffixes/prefixes). There is another type of mod, which is inbuilt. These can't be editted. Examples include Spell recharge time decreased (20% chance) or similiar things (such as Damage +15% (while health is above 50%)). This various inbuilt mods come in different strengths and effects.

I hope this explains things for you. If you want more information, you can always look up resources. A good place to look would be guildwiki.org provided it is up when you try (I think it has a minor reputation for being down, though I haven't run into this problem when using it).

I cant disagree anymore with this.

More like "just do what you want to do", lol. PVP is fun, try everything in this game. Saying "just do the roleplaying" isnt the answer here. Also, i dont know of anyone that "hunts" for mods. There are no specific areas that contain awesome mods. The further into the game you are, the better the drops and mods so to speak. There are alot of mods that are worth some good coin as well, such as a sword pommel of fortitude +30 is between 70-80k.

Check this thread out for the types of mods you can obtain and thier values.

I'd just like to point out that mods/upgrades don't affect a weapon enough to be called "drastically".

The maximum damage increase you can get is +15%. The maximum health bonus from a mod is +30. The maximum energy bonus for a staff head is +5. These stat boons aren't exactly game-breaking and if you're new, don't look for a +30 health mod, but a +25 which will cost you about 10 times less.

I agree with alleji - for one of my builds I use an enchanting staff with 17%, 20% being max. The 17% was only 2k, but If I tried to find a 20% I could be looking upwards of 20k, just for 3% difference.
